Что такое русская дача по - американски

Dacha

The dachas are small plots, typically located on non-arable land that was given out by the Soviet government to urban residents, to increase food production. Most of the former Soviet Union countries retain the dacha system, as several generations have been raised on pickles, potatoes and marinades produced on these small plots. The dachas are an amazing example of diversity and food self sufficiency. Each dacha garden plot has a small house, a few cold frames and an outhouse. They are 3 to 4 thousand square feet in size and provide enough food for a family (two to three generations in one flat) through the winter and until the next harvest. It would be hard to find a gardening system that was more sustainable. The owners are also very adept at all aspects of gardening. Multiple grafted trees and medicinal plants are mixed with culinary herbs, compost piles, vermiculture, and an amazing array of flowering bulbs and annuals.
